German HD DVB-T2 broadcasts:The first stage of DVB-T2 HD was launched with the six HD channels Das Erste, RTL, ProSieben, SAT.1, VOX and ZDF, in addition to the existing DVB-T channels, 18 conurbations. RTL, ProSieben, SAT.1 and VOX will be available encrypted for free until the start of the regular operation in the first quarter of next year. An decryption module (CI+ module) or a set-top box with integrated decryption is required. Das Erste and ZDF are available on all DVB-T2 HD ready devices without encryption. German DVB-T2 HD broadcasts will begin in Germany from 31 May 2016. At launch, broadcasts will cover the HD channels Das Erste, RTL, ProSieben, SAT.1, VOX and ZDF. This follows an agreement between TV channels, media authorities and platform operator Media Broadcast. The first phase will cover themetropolitanareasofBremen/Unterweser,Hamburg/Luebeck, Kiel,Rostock,Schwerin,Hanover/Braunschweig,Magdeburg, Berlin/Potsdam, Jena, Leipzig/Halle,Duesseldorf/Rhein/Ruhr, Cologne/Bonn/Aachen, Rhein/Main, Saarbruecken, Baden-Baden, Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Munich/South Bavaria. German companies and government agencies have launched a joint initiative to coordinate the introduction of DVB-T2 HD services based on the DVB-T2 and HEVC standards replacing the current DVB-T based terrestrial TV services. Thepartners includepublicbroadcastersARDandZDF,commercialbroadcasters RTL and ProsiebenSat.1, the association of commercial radio and TV stations VPRT and the state media offices. The parties have set up a website and developed a logo for DVB-T2 HD-based services.
 Media Broadcast is planning a soft launch of its DVB-T2 multiplex for the first channels, including public as well as private stations, in conurbations in the spring of 2016, Chief Commercial Officer B2B Holger Meinzer told TV Digital. UEFA men’s football matches from France will be broadcast in HD. Regular operations will start in the first quarter of 2017 and the switch to DVB-T2 is due to be completed across the country by mid-2019.
